Player Spotlight: Allen LaVenture

Allen joined our league last year with his girlfriend Barb. Collectively you might know them as Knights of the Round Ball. In his first year with Turbo Bocce Allen made significant contributions to our league off the field by allowing us to hold winter tournaments at the CNY Sports Center and the War Memorial (playing there will always be a feather in the cap for us).

This year Allen made his presence known on the bocce field, scoring 131 points in just 24 games – that’s 5.4+ points a game, a scoring rate that would have put him in the top five of the league had he played all his games – … Read More »

For the first time there was a whole team of people there to help me set up and take down (if only they had arrived on time).

Still when the whole field was built with ten bocce courts on top of it, the place looked pretty good.

They should call it Dave & Bocce from now on . . . and also sponsor us! Filed Under: Articles Tagged With: , ,

War Memorial Glamor, and the movie Slap Shot

You probably know by now that I’m super excited about our chance to play bocce in the War Memorial.  I have mentioned all the big names who have performed there (Michael Jackson, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi . . . the list goes on and on).  I have mentioned that NBA championship games have been played there (Wilt Chamberlain set a record for most consecutive field goals at the War Memorial that will likely stand forever), I’ve also mentioned the fact that professional boxing titles have changed hands there, but I haven’t mentioned much about the big time movie filmed at the War Memorial.
