Week 10 Recap

Week 10 was packed with excitement from start to finish.

It started with a 50/50 raffle to raise money for our DJ, Jimmy Del Fuoco, who has generously donated his time and agreed to play music for us for free all year. Half the money raised went to Jimmy, and the other half went to our winner Boutros Abu from the Bushwackers. Thanks to everybody who participated and congrats Boutros.

Thanks to JMD Audio for bringing the best DJ in Syracuse to bocce every week!

Remember, if you ever need a DJ for any reason, Jimmy is the best around, so keep JMD Mobile DJ in mind. You can contact him at the email jmdaudio@gmail.com.

We also had a special guest. Gary Walts from the Post Standard came by to take some pictures of our league. If you missed it. A lot of his pics ended up on syrause.com and you can see them by clicking on the following link

For the rest of the Recap I will post his pictures side by side with mine, just to see if you can tell the difference between professional and amateur.

Moving on to the bounty games, we had two money winners for the second time in a row. After a season of almost total bounty team success where the prizes got huge, we ended the year on a happy four game winning pay out streak.

Amerika’z Least Wanted was the first bounty team and they played the Knickerbocces with $20 on the line. Even against stiff competition from Amerika’z Least Wanted, Sean and Josh of the Knickerbocces managed to win two of the three games and the $20.

Utter Debocce was the second bounty team and they played Stealth Fox 3 with another $20 on the line. Again the bounty team offered stiff competition, but again money was won as Stealth Fox 3 won two of the three games.

Amateur . . . but there is a super blurry one I'm not including.

Before we get to the weekly individual accomplishments we have a individual milestone and a team milestone to point out. The two biggest regular season records we have in Turbo Bocce have got to be the best team record, and the most points scored.

Currently there is a three way tie in the record books for best all time record. The Tipp Hill Tossers wen 27-3 twice (in 2008-2009), and just last year Jim Whipple and John Bowman went 27-3.

Black Jesus went 3-0 in week 10, taking their overall season record to 25-2. Obviously they have a chance to break the all time record next week, and arrangements have already been made for them to try to set that mark against current record holders Jim Whipple and John Bowman. It should be a game for the ages!

After last year's dream season of 27-3 with 190 points scored, two of this guys records are being challenged this year.

As for individual scoring records. Jim Whipple smashed the all time record last year by scoring 190 points. The record had been set the previous year at 180. Before that nobody had topped the 180 mark.

In week 10, Bill Labrake’s team, Eazy Duz It played two weeks worth of games to catch up, and he scored 21 points in each. That 42 point day pushed him to 180 points on the season . . . with a week still left to play! Only two people have ever scored that much in a full season! He is on pace to smash Whipple’s record of 190, which itself smashed the old record of 180 just last year. Kudos are required for this impressive accomplishment.

20 Point Club

Dan Hanley of Sweet Italian Balls lead all scorers for the week with 22 points.

As Mentioned above, Bill LaBrake of Eazy Duz It scored 21 points twice and is set to smash the all time scoring record.
Angela Morosini of Double A’s also scored 20 points on the day.

5 Bocce Club

Greg Griffo of Los Moppines had 13 bocces on the week, leading the league by a mile and pushing his season total up to 65 which will lead the league this year barring a recording breaking week of bocces from Ed Burgsbaken.

Mike Geiss of Mike & Mike had 9 bocces on the day.

Mark Avery of The Bocce Bunch had 7 bocces to counter Mike Geiss in a game between The Bocce Bunch and Mike & Mike.

Mark Chambers of Utter Debocce put up 6 bocces in a defense of the bounty, and Rob Calvani of Kentucky Bourbon also had 6 bocces.

Scott Mead of Big LeBocce, Jeff Weiner of Steal Your Face, Jeremy Jackson of Kentucky Bourbon, Courtney Razzante of Courtney & I, and Jacob Alstadt of Flailing Weasles each had 5 bocces on the day.
