Pulling up tree roots, laying down top soil, and planting grass seed is not the most fun activity in the world. So its a big deal when someone spends a Saturday on Memorial Day weekend doing these things, not for themselves, but so other people can have more fun.
Our field needed some love and care before the start of the season on Tuesday, and a few guys from our league stepped up to the plate and spent an afternoon doing manual labor. The results are tremendous. If you participated in the presesaon activities last week, then you are going to notice some big changes this week. First and foremost, you are going to notice that our field is about five thousand square feet bigger. Then you are bound to notice how smooth and playable the ground is, as well as how much extra grass has grown.
Lots of work was done, and I feel that the people who put in that work deserve some (actually a lot of) credit. So here they are. If you see them say thanks, and buy them a beer. I promise you they earned it.
I want to make a special mention of Bill Kaminski, who is living in Tennessee and visiting Syracuse for the weekend. Even though he is not able to play bocce this year, he still found time to come to the field and help out. Now that’s some league loyalty!
