There are not many instances in life where you can have a ton of fun, feel like a big shot, and do a truly good deed that will make your city a better place to live. This is one of those rare opportunities, and its one you will not want to miss.
Turbo Bocce and the Syracuse Silver Knight’s are proud to collaborate on this one-of-a-kind bocce ball tournament in the War Memorial. All ages and experience levels are welcome!
The tournament will be played prior to a Syracuse Silver Knight’s game, right on the field turf that professional soccer players play on. If you participate you will have multiple chances to win cash and prizes, you will also get access to a “bocce party room” where there will be food, drinks, and entertainment available to you. You will get a free ticket to the soccer game, where YOU will be honored at half time, and best of all 100% of the proceeds from this tournament will go to the Silver Knight Foundation which is a wonderful charitable organization that helps underprivileged kids get involved with sports so they wont get involved in something bad or destructive instead.
The Details
When – Saturday, December 13th. Registration begins at 9am and the tournament begins promptly at 10am.
Where – Onondaga County War Memorial – 515 Montgomery St, Syracuse, NY 13202. To enter the building for the tournament, walk in the main doors on the State Street side.
How – 2 person teams. $40 per team entry fee. Register and pay for the tournament HERE.
This tournament will be a single elimination tournament due to time constraints we have, but we understand that single elimination kind of sucks for the teams that lose their first game. So, we are going to hedge the line between a single and a double elimination tournament. To win the War Memorial tournament you have to go undefeated, however, all the team’s that lose their first game will continue to compete for a substantial consolation prize in a secondary consolation bracket whose games will be played concurrently to the games in the winners bracket. This will guarantee that every team gets at least two games on the big stage, it will double your chances of emerging a winner, and still allow us to finish up before they need the turf for soccer.
My first job in high school was as an usher in the War Memorial, so I probably know a little more about its history than most. Right off the top of my head I can tell you that if you play in this bocce tournament, you will be competing in the same spot that Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, and Wilt Chamberlin have competed. Where NBA championships were won and lost. You will perform in the same arena where Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springstein, Michael Jackson, and countless others performed. You will stand in the place where professional boxing championship belts were won and lost, and where the movie Slap Shot was filmed. This is a chance to make your mark on history.
