Monday night I had a dream that I was drinking in a Mike Tyson’s Punch Out themed bar that played “Go Your Own Way” on the jukebox while I and other patrons battled Mike in the arcade. The name of the bar was Little Fleetwood Mac. I woke up thinking that was pretty awesome, but then I remembered something much more awesome . . . it was bocce day. The bocce did not let me down!
We’ve got a lot of great highlights so lets get right to the games.
Lets start with a great game between Amerika’z Most Wanted and Rob & Jon. Amerika’z Most Wanted started the year hot, looking like the champions that they are, and this game was no different, especially the start. Amerika’z Most Wanted won the first game 11-2, looking dominant. In the second game Rob & Jon found their bearings, and forced overtime. In fact the second game of this series was the longest game of the season so far with Amerika’z Most Wanted needing 14 points (including 10 from Anson Zeppetello) to finally prevail 14-10 against Rob & Jon. Momentum was on Rob & Jon’s side in the third game. They made plenty of shots like the one you can see below and won 11-3.
Game of the week? Perhaps the game of the season? “Yes” just might be the answer to both questions when undefeated Black Jesus played undefeated Los Moppines. The first game was crazy, and ultimately the difference in the series. Los Moppines had a 9-2 lead, but could not hang onto it when Black Jesus started playing the hills. Ultimately Black Jesus got the overtime win 12-10. In game two Black Jesus took first place in the league for themselves with a 12-6 win. In game three Los Moppines would not be denied, earning a dominating 11-4 win, despite Black Jesus making bocces like this one. FYI: the quality of this game was top notch. In my opinion these are the two best teams in the league at the moment . .. . but its a long season and a lot can change.
The Mean Girls played a great game against impressive rookies Boccesaures Rex, who were especially imprressive in game one, winning 11-7. The Mean Girls used their experience (I assume) to win game two in overtime, 12-10, then they took that momentum, and shots like the one you can see below, and won the third game 11-7. All three games were close and Katie and Christina really helped themselves in the Rookie of the Year standings with 16 and 14 points respectively.
2 ½ Kittens vs. Chewbocce was must watch bocce (I know because I was the scorekeeper for a while). Chewbocce came out strong with an 11-4 win. In game two, 2 ½ Kittens bounced back with an 11-6 win of their own. The series came down to game three, and was tied late when Steve Henry of 2 ½ Kittens made this great shot. Ultimately 2 ½ Kittens won the game and the series by that minimum victory total of 2 points, 11-9.
The bounty game was played between DaVinci and Italian Chicks. Davinci won the first game 12-6 and seemed on their way to a victory, but Italian Chicks had other ideas winning the second game big, 11-5. The series, and the bounty prize would come down to the third game, and in that game DaVinci showed what they are made of, winning 11-1 behind seven big points by Scotti Francescotti on shots like the one below.
Onto individual stats:
20 Point Club (season high going into the week was 21)
None. Zero. No 20 point scorers. Nearly 90 people played bocce on Tuesday and none of them scored 20 points. I honestly don’t think that’s happened before. Lots of close games and nobody racking up big points. That speaks to how even our league has become and how hard it is to dominate.
Honorable mention goes to Sherri Walakis of Blonde Bocce Bitches, and Kevin Currerri of Salty Bocce Balls who each scored 19 points in victories for their team.
As for everyone else . . . enjoy a slice of failure cake.

This year we are going to try to interview a different player every week to give you a perspective on bocce that’s not mine, which I feel can only be a good thing. This week’s interview is with Christina Hudson of Boccesaurus Rex.
Turbo Bocce: How long have you played bocce?
Christina: 4 weeks.
Turbo Bocce: What’s your favorite restaurant in Syracuse
Christina: Fancescas
Turbo Bocce: What’s the weirdest place you’ve ever unintentionally vomited?
Christina: My math teacher’s lap.
Turbo Bocce: What’s the weirdest place you’ve ever intentionally vomited?
Christina: The center console of my car.
Turbo Bocce: Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Christina: 100 duck-sized horses
There you have it. I have to say I agree with Christina on the duck-sized horses. The idea of fighting a horse-sized duck is scary.
Some advice to hold you over until bocce: Writing. Like. This. Doesn’t. Make. Your. Point. Any. Stronger.
